More: remember that mean isn't bad. Mean is quirky and firey and potentially endearing. Mean gets good papers.

I repeat something like this to myself in the mirror as I'm brushing my teeth every morning.

It feels more true the further in I get. :)

It's true. Be the mean teacher and class will be easier for it. It is much easier to gradually release an iron fist than to slam one down when control is threatened.

I like the idea of repeating it as a mantra while brushing teeth.

Of course, it's better to be so secure that you don't have to ever play the iron fist game. . . that good old will to power thing. . .

but I bet you do mean very well, in the "students are glad for it, eventually" sort of way. :)
