If I can't have you...I don't want nobody, baby!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HYPER! I've been sliding around my kitchen singing along with "Saturday Night Fever" while putting away dishes as a study break while working on aformentioned stress number 1, which got an extension. And I was just talking with Xister about how I should blog more happy so random blog searchers won't contact my health care professional. Wow. Where does this sort of thing come from?

Not to answer that question, but in correlation, I got accepted for University of Chicago's masters program. I'll probably still go to BYU, but I'll look into it. Still. It's nice to know that some people you will probably never meet really liked you as represented by a slim packet of letters and writing samples.

And a manfriend of mine chose to come up and talk with me and sit right next to me (as opposed to a seat's distance away, as is customary in larger classes) and talk and walk with me after class, which makes me think maybe pigtails are a hot new look.

And it's sunny-ish.

And John Steinbeck effectively combined literary aspects to his war propaganda in order to create works that had a lasting impact as literature as well as immediate political results.

I heart the pigtails and congrats on Chicago, whether you go or not that's awesome. I love Chicago, it's a great city.

I love happy spring and happy Mary. Also, I haven't seen the pigtails but approve sheerly on principle.
Also, who is Xister? Sometimes people comment on my blog and I don't know who they are and part of me is flattered and another part is consumed with itchy anxious curiosity...

Yay Chicago! Yay BYU! (I think - you may have to explain to me why you'll take BYU over Chicago...)

Steinbeck - we did not read even one thing by Steinbeck when I took 363. I was deeply irritated, seeing as the way I answer the question, "What's your favorite book?" (which, by the way, is a really despicable question) is by saying, "East of Eden." :)

Are you done with the whole thesis thing?

Congratulations on getting accepted! I'm with Makayla - I want to hear the pro-BYU logic too. Not that I don't love BYU, but since I will hopefully have the luxury of choosing between multiple MA programs in 3 years or so, I wanna hear your logic.

In Defense of Stephanie Meyer.

It occurs to me that at this late stage I haven't lent my voice to the already cacophonous choruses debating the literary merits of Ms. Meyer's work. I realize that by making any sort of statement, I risk alienating good friends with strong opinions, but weighing that hazard against that of letting my friend continue in strong opinions unchecked, I have decided to go forth as originally planned. I don't think Stephanie Meyer is a bad writer. Now this isn't to say that I think her prose merits inclusion in the next Norton's anthology or that a world of Twilight would usher in the literary revolution we've been waiting for, but I've had enough of people calling her a talentless hack. Moms and Vets: a little rant about people who complain about Mothers Day

Another year and yet again more op-eds published with the somehow still surprising revelation that not everyone is/has/wants to be a picture perfect mother. I don't understand why this is still news--why is it important to say again and again how no one is/has/wants to be June Cleaver? Feels like "asked and answered." But consider another minor holiday dedicated to a group of people who sometimes endure harrowing experiences: Veterans Day. Imagine these op-ed perspectives talking about how Veterans Day is so painful because: I wanted to be a veteran, but couldn't due to health reasons.
