Almost Useless Post

On the one hand, high heels make girls' legs look good. On the other hand, high heels hurt. Sigh...

True story: The gait women have when they wear high heels is the same gait that ancient Chinese women had who'd had their feet bound.

The question is (and I mean this semi-seriously), why do we care if our legs look good? Who, exactly, are we trying to impress with this, and for what purpose?

I hate heels, for the record. And if that means my legs never look good, well, so be it. :P

Sorry Mary, but I love wearing high heals. It's not about the legs. It's because I like being able to show that I can hold an intelligent conversation and wear high heals at the same time! You know, an "I am woman, hear me roar" kind of a thing.

Happily married, don't own a single pair of high heels. I do own a pair of hiking boots. Thus, my legs are awesome because they can take me all over the earth, not because I look dainty whilst I am teetering on the edge of an ankle break. Hmph.

Spending so much time trying to look good and impress others = a life lived in fear of others' opinions. By all means be healthy, take care of your skin, and exercise. For all other attempts to be fakely beautiful, David O. McKay can take his painted barn and burn it.

I am in a terribly bad mood.

This is funny for me to read, partly because my favorite pair of shoes are my latin sandals-- 2 1/2 inch spike, stuck on a flimsy piece of suede and lashed onto one's feet with satin. Even to walk gracefully in them requires an absurd amount of muscle, which I don't really have anymore. I don't tend to wear heels except to dance.

Personally, my stance is this: heels, for either gender, should be a choice--and as free a choice as possible. That means we should strive to create the kind of environment where it's not EVER something that's just expected of women, even in a romantic context. A man who can't appreciate a woman out of her makeup and heels deserves scorn. . . and, when it comes to those of us who are well suited to that sort of thing, a man who can't appreciate us in them deserves pity.

Heels do make your butt look good. There's is an excellent yet unrepeatable in public about that.

And Jenny's partly right about the gait. Depends on the style of binding, but usually it created a more "swaying" gait. It was considered very alluring, though.

Writing My Own Obituary

Mary Leah Hedengren recently passed away due to natural causes. For example, a heart attack. Lots of people die from heart attacks, very suddenly, and sometimes without any previous medical symptoms. Or a brain aneurysm. That's another good one. She could have died from a brain aneurysm. Anyway, the point isn't which natural cause it was, but that is was a natural cause. Totally natural. Au naturel, as the French would say. Natural as could be. More natural than the produce section in a hippie co-op. That natural. Nothing suspicious about it at all. Just your run-of-the-mill, completely possible, however tragic, naturally occurring natural causes. Ms. Hedengren lived an entirely normal, not suspicious, totally safe life. She was born on September 11, 1984 in Provo, Utah, didn't do anything that might cause chagrin to any unsavory characters, and served a full-time mission for the LDS Church. Me and Mini

I flew in to Minneapolis yesterday--my plane arrived at 12:00, I got to my hostel by 1:15--but my conference doesn't start until noon today, which means I have a little bit of time to do what I will. I hit the grocery store and then... THE MALL OF AMERICA. I had a really great time, but I'm glad I'm a short girl instead of a tall swarthy man because otherwise riding such rides as Jimmy Nuetron's Atomic Collider and Backyardigan Swing Along (hey, I love the giant swings) because, otherwise, I would have really come across as a creeper. I went shopping at H&M, and I guess there were some other stores there (psh...I guess!) and I had a grand old time.
